Their
Prayers
by Velma M. Carlson
I stood by their beds, I heard their prayers
They
were as sweet as they could be.
Their Mommy and Daddy had gone away,
And left them in care of me.
“God Bless Mommy and Daddy,” they said.
“Make us as good as we can be.
May we have tomorrow?” Jackie asked,
With three voices in harmony.
“God Bless everyone,” the four of them asked;
Janet, Dianne, and Nancy, with Jackie leading the little ones.
Plain and simple, not fancy.
Four little girls, so sweet and pure.
A beautiful family
I looked at their faces, so full of life,
And thought, “What will their future be?”
Maybe a Sister, maybe a nurse?
Their future we cannot see.
But give them tomorrow, I ask Thee, Dear God,
And make them what you’d have them be.
With their little hands – the sign of the Cross,
As plain as it could be.
As I tucked t hem in bed, my heart was full,
Because they had even prayed for me.
(for the children of Dr. Murray Rice)
A simile is as easy as pie, but a
metaphor is a piece of cake!
